Surface Intelligent Transport System (SITS) – Video Analytics

Strategic Objective

As part of the Surface Intelligent Transport Systems (SITS) programme, the SITS Video Analytics project seeks to provide an enhanced understanding of transport demand, road-user movements and network performance through the deployment of advanced video analytics technology. The capability will support TfL’s operational, strategic and policy objectives by delivering high-quality data and insights to improve network management, transport planning, road safety analysis and performance monitoring.

High-Level Scope & Open Market Exploration

TfL is currently technology- and model-agnostic. We are approaching the market to explore the full spectrum of available solutions. Areas we wish to investigate with suppliers include:

Deployment Architecture: Assessing the feasibility and benefits of edge-based analytics, cloud-processing, or hybrid environments using existing TfL infrastructure.

Delivery Models: Exploring various commercial structures, including fully managed Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), bespoke software deployment, or combined hardware/software solutions.

Data & Analytics Maturity: Understanding current market capabilities regarding multi-modal classification (e.g., separating cargo bikes, e-scooters, pedestrians, and heavy freight) and trajectory tracking.
